Integrating the BSL web server into your network

Use your intranet standards for client access

The BSL web server provides access to very sensitive data, and security is the prime concern when providing internet access.

It is likely that you will require a secure method for users to connect to your intranet. Some options might be:

  • VPN using dial-in
  • VPN using PPTP on the internet and 128 bit encryption
  • Trusted national ISP

The server will be part of your intranet. It will be protected by your firewalls, access control and other features which you might use to keep your intranet secure.

Once the user has access to your intranet, they can connect to the BSL server.

The BSL server will then manage per user suthentification. The users must then identify themselves, using username and password, controlled by the Oracle RDBMS. They will then gain access to secure BSL applications.

It is possible to have unsecured BSL applications to provide access to less secure data.

Connecting the Web Server

The web server needs to be accessible from within the intranet network.

This means it must have an entry in your internal name server, or a fixed IP address that users can connect to internally, or externally.

BSL will need to access this machine using TCP-IP. We can use similar dialup methods we currently use to support your client server architecture.

BSL supports use of SSL (https:), and this is recommended. We would ask you to suply an SSL certificate integrated with your internal encryption signature system, or allow us to obtain one for you (at cost).
