Meet the Team
Ravi Sawney, Managing Director
Having studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge university, Ravi went onto work as an Executive Engineer on International Standards for British Telecoms for nine years before founding Bright Systems Limited in 1993. On a day to day basis Ravi manages the team and works primarily in research and development and user interfaces.
Ravi is a talented musician and outside of work spends a lot of time playing music with various ensembles, with a repertoire of English and European folk music.
“I love the challenge posed by the internet - to make complex technologies accessible to everyone.
The opportunity to convert ideas into actuality never ceases to thrill. I like our products which take the repetitiveness out of your working life by letting the software take the strain, allowing people more time to do what people do best!.”
Frank Vickers, Senior Systems Analyst
Frank joined the company in 1996 having previously worked in the IT department for the Central Office of Information in London overseeing the installation of various systems. He then went onto manage a software quality assurance programme with the MOD followed by a short time managing projects for the Construction Industry Training Board.
Education and professional training includes a BA Honours in Philosophy and Linguistics, Systems Analysis and Project Management (Civil Service) and Software Quality Management (MOD).
Frank has mostly worked with Local Authorities on Special Educational Needs Management Systems, and has a wide range of skills and experience turning his hand to most aspects of the business.
Outside of work you will find Frank cooking up a storm (and eating it too). He is a keen runner, dancer and talented musician playing both violin and the hurdy gurdy. His family and two sons also keep him pretty busy as well.
“I like the variety of the work at BSL, and the friendly atmosphere; everyone is very approachable and helpful. BSL is always open to new ideas and ways of doing things. We have quite a good social life too. I’ve also developed good relationships with our customers so that they’ve become more like colleagues, which shows quite a high level of trust and confidence on their part.”
Alastair Neill, Senior Systems Analyst
Alastair joined the team in 1999 having re-trained in IT after a sixteen year career as a dairy farmer. A long standing and valued member of the team Alastair specialises in the development and improvement of web applications and liaises with clients to constantly maintain and improve their systems.
Outside of work you will most likely find Alastair on a cricket pitch. As an ECB qualified coach if he's not busy coaching he enjoys playing with his local team.
“The applications we provide are constantly evolving and everyday offers something new. We also do a good deal of problem solving which plays to my strengths and I really enjoy.”
Louis Ford, Web Application Developer
Another part-time recruit from Brighton University, Louis took up a full-time position in 2011 having graduated with a BSc in Digital Media Development. Previous experience includes a placement with world-class visual effects specialists, VTR. Louis has hit the ground running since he joined and now specialises in the design and development of new products alongside the maintenance of existing products. Being the new boy (well not so new really) it often falls to him to keep us all fueled with regular cups of coffee.
Outside of work you will find Louis playing video games (self confessed more than he should) up a mountain snowboarding or cheering for Arsenal, his favourite football team.
“Because we are a relatively small company, I like how involved I can get in each step of a project. Seeing an idea all the way through from the initial brainstorming phase to the tiny tweaks at the end is very rewarding.”
